This pictorial guide was written to document Katrina's force and is dedicated to honor her victims and heroes.
Within one month, during the summer of 2005, two monster hurricanes devastated the entire Gulf South Region of the United States. The first, Katrina, was "The One" that the experts had feared for so long. She struck Florida first, then regrouped and grew to hit Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Four weeks later, Hurricane Rita came in along the Texas - Louisiana border to affect new areas and further damage those already suffering.
It has been long speculated that a category five storm, such as Katrina, could turn New Orleans into the lost city of Atlantis. While not hitting the Big Easy directly, eventually some of the levees protecting the city gave way, and the greater part of New Orleans was submerged.
For the most part, dealing with Katrina brought out the best in people. This was manifested in the inner strength it took for her survivors to endure, the courage of those first responders that risked so much to help, and the generosity of those from near and far who reached deep into their hearts and wallets to give what they could to assist. We salute all of these heroes.
This book has very few words. As a life long resident of New Orleans, words cannot describe the destruction caused by the hurricane in New Orleans and all areas along the Gulf Coast, and it is not until you are standing in someone's front yard and completely encircled by destruction that you can fully comprehend what has occurred.
